Hitler's photographer Heinrich Hoffmann records this trait. Hoffmann also notes that before Hitler wore a new suit in public, he had himself photographed in it to see what he looked like. Hitler decreed in 1933 that all pictures showing him in Lederhosen should be taken out of circulation, and showed distaste at Mussolini's allowing himself to be photographed in his bathing suit: 'A really great statesman doesn't do that' For Ribbentrop's comment see Joachim von Ribbentrop, The Ribbentrop Memoirs.
