Conflicting beliefs about right and wrong can only be resolved by violence because such beliefs are the permanent foundation of every understanding so cannot be changed. Hence people with conflicting beliefs about right and wrong can only resolve such a conflict by one side imposing its beliefs by violence on the other. This is the reason why societies go to war with each other, and sometimes with themselves, in order to resolve the conflict and so restore peace.
